As we approach the park we see children playing and parents supporting. Pretty much as we have seen in the past few times we have
made this journey. But this time it’s different. As we park our cars and begin to unload the ice chests and the table and chairs we will
use for our day of giveaway, they begin to approach our table. They remember, or they’ve heard about us. For the first few moments
of confusion, trying to get set up and also provide those who have come with their chosen drink, a kind of satisfaction begins to grow in
each of us. We don’t have time to make a count of how many or even what we just handed out but we know that this is good. As the
day progresses, we continue to hand out our drinks and we have an opportunity to share a little with some who stop to ask, “Why are
you doing this?” When the time comes to start to pack up a man and his son come to help. Just as he shuts the door on the car after
the last ice chest is stowed away, he turns to LeRoy and says, “as you do this to the least of mine, my brothers, you do it to me.”
I wish you could all experience what those who have volunteered for this event. It does ones heart good. It seems so simple, a free
bottle of water, juice or Gatorade. How can that make a difference? But it does. We have decided to stop numbering the times we
do this because to number means there may be a last time we do this and we believe that this is only the beginning of a beautiful
friendship with the Chatsworth community and Holy Shepherd.
The Evangelism committee would like to thank all of those who have volunteered and to those who have donated juice and water or
money for ice. Your efforts are making a difference. If you are interested in joining us, please email or call for information on the next
date.
